Spam in private messages
 

I just wanted to let you all know I just received a spam message from a 'new user' named cegucpoo. I did report the message.

Thanks Lynn for reporting it. It looks like it was taken care of quickly. I know that we all try to stay on top of this, but it helps when others keep an eye out also.

Yes, thanks for reporting this. I got an email yesterday when you reported it so I banned this user right away. I know at least one other person got a spam message from that user. I know I limited the number of PMs a new user can send, so hopefully too many people weren't affected

You're welcome! I like to think of this site as our own, little scrapbook sanctuary (LOL) and I wouldn't want anything to happen to it because of some crazy computer person!

Aww... You are so sweet. :flowers: We may be smaller and quieter than other sites, but I'd like to think have formed some lasting friendships through our interactions and love for Disney.

The user was probably some kind of bot that got around some of the protective measures I put in place. We had a user send probably 100 PMs about a month ago, so after that happened I reduced the number a new user can send to 5 or less (I don't recall offhand). If a lot of people got this one then I'll have to do some research and figure out how they did it. Hopefully the account isn't crafty enough to purge messages and send more. If it is I may have to take away PM ability for all newbies til they've posted a certain number of times.

Sorry... I think you got the last one too, right? :( Thanks for always reporting these. I think I am the only one that can ban a user after PMs, but any mod can delete spammy posts
