"Walkin' Right Down the Middle of Main Street USA" song

I found this post (from the "Ask Dave (the Ultimate Disney Expert)" column of d23.Disney.com) very interesting. I always wondered about the history behind this song (which I also first heard on the Sing Along).

Q: In the Disney Sing Along video Disneyland Fun, there is a song called "Walkin' Right Down the Middle of Main Street, U.S.A." I believe at the end it's credited to Stu Nunnery with a much earlier copyright date than the video. What has this song been used in before the Sing Along?
Craig, Phoenix, Arizona

A: : According to Stu Nunnery on ClassicRockMusicBlog.com: "I wrote words and music to 'Main Street, U.S.A.' in 1978 while writing for a 'jingle house' in New York. Disney bought the song and there was supposed to be a rollout of the song in 1980 when Disneyland was to celebrate its 25th anniversary (1955). The song did not appear publicly until 1985 when Disneyland celebrated its 30th anniversary, and it was sung on a TV special by none other than Marie Osmond and a cast of characters. Since then, the song remains a parade theme at the parks, and is sung by the barbershop a capella groups walking down Main Street at the parks."

Yes, thanks for sharing. I had always wondered where the song came from. When the Sing-a-long came out, it was one of my sister's favorites and she'd re-enact the song. Very cute.

Disneyland Sing-a-long was the very first VHS tape my husband bought for our daughter when she was 3mo old back in 2000. Now three kids and two copies later we still play it over and over. We play the tape weeks prepping for our next Disneyland trip and play it after we get back. And of cousre we sing Walkin' when we are in Disneyland. Walkin' is one of our family's favorite songs....:hooray: Thanks for sharing the history of such a great song!

What an interesting tid-bit. I sing this song the first time we walk into magic kingdom every trip and do a page in my books using this song...♥
