Mariner of the Seas to leave California
Hi Everyone,
While this isn’t Disney related, I wanted to let you know about a press release I just read from Royal Caribbean. They have decided to relocate Mariner of the Seas (currently the largest ship on the West Coast at 138k tons) to the Mediterranean and then to the Caribbean (out of Galveston) for 2011-2012. It has only been here just over a year, and I thought we would get to keep it far longer than two years. I feel like this is a total blow to the selection here on the West Coast. This is a beautiful ship with plenty to do and see, and I always recommend it without hesitation to friends. While RCCL's food and service is not at the level of Disney or Celebrity (and nothing can compare to DCL's entertainment), it still has a lot to offer with things like the interior promenade, ice skating show, mini-put golf, and in-line skating (albeit the inline skating area is small). Ironically, it will leave California in January, which is when the Disney Wonder will arrive. Of course I’m ecstatic that the Wonder will be here, but it will definitely cost more. So from an affordability perspective (value for your dollar), I am extremely disappointed that Mariner is leaving. Hopefully Royal Caribbean will replace it with one of their other mega ships. For those who are on the West half of the states considering a cruise, the prices are still very good for the Mariner, so be sure to take a look at pricing before she is gone. Carol
