I have a 2 TB external hard drive that runs an automatic backup while im working. I got mad about something earlier in the year (actually it was when my husband brought divorce papers home; but all is fine now) and slammed my laptop top so hard (and had no backup) that I cracked the hard drive and lost over 100 pages that were finished. So, I completely stand on my little soap box and preach back up please. Don't lose your work. It's not worth it.
