DCL Disney Dream webcast

Here are some notes I jotted down during the webcast(s):

Set sails January 26, 2011 (Port Canaveral)

Adult venues
Skyline Lounge – Seven 65” LCD screens that displays a different skyline (of famous city) every night. e.g. Hong Kong, Paris, London, New York. Drinks will complement the scene of the night (Cosmo for New York, for example)

Disney District – District Lounge, Metro (with 103” large screen), Pink (champagne bar with pink bubbles that try to give you the feel of being in champagne glass)

Palo – Disney 'went back to Italy to get more inspiration'. More traditional, upscale; and yes, the famous Soufflé will be there

Dining - Rotational dining continues (woo-hoo!)
Two new dining venues:
- The Royal Palace (a tribute to the Disney princess stories) &
- The Enchanted Garden which transforms from day to night.
Also, there will be a “Reimagination” of Animator’s Palate

Entertainment
Enchanted art (in hallways) – comes to life as guests walk by… (sense guest). Some may show the port of call

Walt Disney Theater
- New show: Villians to Night (Cruella, Hades, Captain Hook, etc)

Buena Vista Theater – taken to the "next level" – Disney digital 3D; theater will be larger with two levels (enter at either level)

Staterooms
- Interior cabins will have virtual portholes – a “view” of outside (live footage provided by four cameras on outside of ship) as well as the occasional sea creature (i.e. characters from Nemo)
- 100% Egyptian cotton sheets 300 thread count sheets
- Increased height of bed frame to create room for luggage underneath

Youth activities
Edge club – new hangout just for 'tweens' – 11/12 year old; gaming walls;
Teens - new outdoor deck with jets and mist-ers, giant chess/checkerboard
Oceaneer club – Monsters Inc, Toy Story areas
Oceaneer Lab – 103” monitor for gaming and meeting Crush and Stitch (interactive, like Turtle Talk with Crush); gaming hall; Pixie Hollow area; animation workstations; lots of computers

New Water Coaster!
First of its kind onboard a cruise ship: the “AquaDuck” a water coaster; two times the length of a football field and 4 stories high. Over the side in places, giving riders a view of ocean 150 feet below. Imagine sliding through a see-thru tube, being propelled by water (think Crush n Gusher at Typhoon Lagoon). Deck 16 (start at highest point on ship) and go thirteen feet over side; 90 second ride; 48” and taller

Castaway Cay transformations
Family beach extended 700’

Cookies II – New family BBQ area
New Pelican Plunge water play area out in the family swimming area. 2400 square feet; 2 corkscrew slides
New onshore water play area called "Spring a Leak" – dripping pipes, squirting jets, etc
Scuttles Cove will have a new water play area – soft wet deck area – pop jets
16 new family rental cabanas – 325 sq feet
4 additional cabanas in Serenity Bay

Castaway Cay enhancements scheduled to be completed summer 2010 – in time for 5 night cruises with two stops at Castaway Cay

Can begin booking November 9th

These are some really exciting additions/innovations... I want to see it!!

Re: DCL Disney Dream - news from webcast

"Official" information from the Disney TA site:

Quote:

Family-Friendly Innovations

The Disney Dream™ will introduce a number of cruise-industry firsts and family-friendly innovations designed to make your Client's experience even more magical. Among the highlights:

* AquaDuck — Disney Cruise Line® debuts the first-ever shipboard water coaster! This exhilarating high-speed flume ride featuring twists, turns, drops, uphill acceleration and river rapids — all while traversing the upper decks of the ship.
* Virtual Porthole – A cruise-industry first for all inside staterooms! Virtual Portholes offer a "window" to the world with a real-time view outside the ship using high-definition cameras. As Guests observe the view, they may glimpse a magical surprise: animated characters like Mickey Mouse may pop by the Virtual Porthole.
* Enchanted Art — Around the atrium lobby and throughout the ship, Enchanted Art will immerse your Clients in Disney storytelling in a completely new way. Enchanted Art magically comes alive as Guests pause to admire individual pieces.
* Living Characters — In youth spaces, Disney Characters come to life and interact with children in one-of-a-kind experiences. Crush, the animated sea turtle from the Disney•Pixar motion picture "Finding Nemo," or the mischievous animated alien Stitch make scheduled appearances to chat, play and joke with kids in live, unrehearsed conversations.

A Modern Classic Vessel

Like her sister ships, the Disney Dream™ continues the tradition of blending the elegant grace of early 20th century transatlantic ocean liners with contemporary design to create one of the most stylish and spectacular cruise ships afloat.

* Signature Design — The ship's exterior color scheme matches the iconic Mickey Mouse with a black hull, bold red funnels and vivid yellow striping and lifeboats. Silhouettes of Disney Characters are scrolled into the signature filigree ornamentation. Inside, the elegant décor is influenced by the Art Deco style with a dash of Disney whimsy.
* Atrium Lobby — The magical voyage begins upon entering the expansive three-deck atrium lobby, highlighted by a sweeping grand staircase, oversized portholes and stunning, three-story fluted columns with glowing capitals. Cast in bronze, Admiral Donald Duck graces the atrium lobby.

Staterooms and Suites

Catering to the unique vacation needs of families, Disney Dream™ staterooms offer comfort and style synonymous throughout the Disney fleet.

* 150 inside staterooms featuring Virtual Portholes, a cruise-industry first.
* 1,100 outside staterooms
o 860 verandahs
o 199 ocean views
o 20 concierge family ocean view suites with verandah
o 19 concierge one-bedroom suites with verandah
o 2 concierge royal suites

To accommodate larger families and groups traveling together, there are 500 connecting doors adjoining staterooms. Most staterooms feature a split-bath — a concept that Disney introduced to the cruise industry.

Dining on the Dream

Elaborately themed restaurants, distinctly Disney touches and world-class cuisine will please the palate and satisfy all of the senses — making dining aboard the Disney Dream™ a memorable experience for your Clients.

* Animator's Palate — A re-imagined version of the signature Disney Cruise Line® restaurant will bring the magic of Disney animation into the dining room for a one-of-a-kind experience that will captivate the entire family.
* Royal Palace — An elegant restaurant inspired by classic Disney films such as "Cinderella" and "Beauty and the Beast." Splendid décor includes ornate marble floors and luxurious carpets plus a magnificent, hand-blown chandelier made of glass slippers.
* Enchanted Garden — A whimsical, casual restaurant inspired by the gardens of Versailles. Your Clients will feel as though they've arrived at a lovely conservatory, with white trellises, custom glass "flower" light fixtures and cascading fountain. The dining environment will magically transform from day to night during the meal.

Magical Youth Spaces

Disney Cruise Line® revolutionized the cruise industry with elaborately themed youth areas. On the new Disney Dream™, the celebration of children's creativity rises to a new level with extraordinary youth spaces designed to inspire, entertain and spark the imagination of children in nearly an entire deck created just for them.

* Andy's Room — The world of the Disney•Pixar "Toy Story" films comes to life. Kids experience the feeling of being toy-sized as they play among larger-than-life characters from the animated film.
* Monster's Academy — A fun, interactive space fashioned after the scare floor from the Disney•Pixar film "Monsters, Inc."
* Pixie Hollow — Children are transported to the enchanted land inhabited by Tinker Bell and her fairy friends, complete with a pixie tree, twinkling lights and fairy houses.
* Explorer Pod — Inspired by the Disney•Pixar animated film "Finding Nemo," a bright blue and yellow submarine surfaces in the center of the room, offering an interactive play area for children.
* It's a Small World Nursery — Infants and toddlers are welcomed by cheerful, three-dimensional facades and artwork inspired by the classic Disney Theme Park attraction.
* Edge — Located inside the forward funnel, this lounge is just for tweens ages 11 - 13 and is filled with a multitude of hi-tech entertainment including the ability to create and star in photo postcards and video karaoke.
* Vibe — A "teens-only" swipe card provides access to this trendy, indoor/outdoor space created especially for teens ages 14 - 17.

Just for Adults

With a spectacular nighttime entertainment district, exquisite dining, a deluxe spa and tranquil private pool, the Disney Dream™ provides adults with endless ways to unwind, rejuvenate and pamper themselves.

* The District — Located on Deck 4 aft, this adult-exclusive nighttime entertainment area features sensational venues like a sophisticated lounge, modern pub, upscale cocktail lounge, metropolitan "sky bar" and dynamic nightclub.
* Senses Spa & Salon — Spanning two decks, the 16,000-square-foot spa provides private treatment rooms, rainforest, lavish spa villas and ocean-view gym.
* Palo — A redesigned version of the Disney Cruise Line® signature restaurant, Palo invites adults to indulge in a menu of delectable Northern Italian cuisine, an extensive wine list and superior service.

2011 Itineraries

On Jan. 26, 2011, the Disney Dream™ is scheduled to depart Port Canaveral, Fla., for a four-night maiden voyage. Important booking details

For the majority of 2011, the new ship will alternate three- and four-night sailings. During the summer months, the ship will alternate four- and five-night itineraries. The schedule also includes special five-night holiday cruises during Christmas and New Year's.

Inspired by her sister ships, Disney Magic® and Disney Wonder®, the classic design of Disney Dream™ celebrates the grandeur of classic ocean liners. Our newest ship features innovations, imagination and wonders that will make dreams come true in brand-new ways—a true, one-of-a-kind Disney Cruise Line® experience. At just over 1,115 feet long, and 14 decks tall, Disney Dream™ offers immense-level enchantment never seen before on the sea.

Families thrill to the first water coaster at sea, the AquaDuck! A wild, watery blast, this 765-foot long winding attraction splashes you up, down and around the top deck, through one of the ship’s funnels, over the edge and down a full four-deck drop.

Kids enjoy new, enhanced spaces designed to delight and ignite their imagination like never before. Pixie Hollow and Andy’s Room, (inspired by Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story films) are just two of the new creations that will transport kids to new realms of wonder.

Kids from 11–13 take control of the forward funnel with their own private club called The Edge.

While the entire onboard experience for Teens from 14–17 has been completely re-imagined with Vibe, an exclusive indoor escape and outdoor hang out area—that reaches out to the bow of the ship.

Adults can savor new indulgences and a brand-new take on a Disney cruise classic. Sail away in the Senses Spa & Salon with couple’s villas and an all-new Rainforest Room. The amazing nighttime entertainment district features five distinct clubs, including: Pink, an elegant champagne bar that just might be made of bubbles; and the Skyline bar that offers a spectacular new city view each evening. While, high up on deck, everyone’s favorite romantic escape, Palo, enjoys a brand-new look, al fresco dining and more.

Update on Animator's Palate

Just read some information on Animator's Palate. I was confused by the artist's rendering above (so different from Magic/Wonder!), and even asked about it during my training trip. So, this is the first time I've heard why the rendering above is so plain. See the second rendering on the link below. It will change to a 'Nemo' environment with Crush making interactive appearances throughout the restaurant (like 'Turtle Talk with Crush'). Sounds far more interesting that the image above! I was worried there! Check it out on the Disney Blog.

Remy

AllEars.net has a picture on the "Blog this" section of another adult only dining option on the Dream. All I know is I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR. Have already told hubby we are eating here no matter what the upcharge. We love Palo so I'm sure this will be fantastic.

Here's the info...

http://land.allears.net/blogs/dnews/2010/04/remy_adult_exclusive_dining_on_1.html

"Remy - Adult Exclusive Dining on the Disney Dream

Remy on the Disney Dream is an intimate Adult Exclusive restaurant located on Deck 12, Aft that serves the finest in French-inspired cuisine for dinner. Offering the most upscale dining experience on board, Remy features spectacular ocean views and a warm, sophisticated décor—the perfect romantic setting for Guests 18 years of age and older.

Dining at Remy is like being transported to an authentic fine-dining restaurant in France. The luxurious dining room is softly lit and designed in a timeless Art Nouveau style featuring soft greens, rich reds, and gold tones. Graceful, sinuous lines adorn the chair backs, glass and wall etchings, as sweeping floral and leaf designs ornament the carpet and lighting. Adding to the refined ambience, tables are set with Frette linens, Riedel glassware, Christofle silverware, and china created exclusively for the restaurant. The adorable Remy character appears in artful ways throughout the restaurant's design for a touch of Disney magic.

Dinner

Boasting a French-inspired menu featuring superior seasonal ingredients from around the globe, dining at Remy is a leisurely affair. Beginning with a signature chilled Champagne cocktail that is prepared at your table, dinner is comprised of 8 to 9 small courses accompanied by a stellar wine list. Elegant touches include a tableside trolley for international cheeses, decanting stations for wines, and an after-dinner coffee service offering French press and grand crème.

Exact serving times for dinner and menu items are soon to be determined.

Private Chef's Table

For an even more memorable dining experience, Remy boasts a special Chef's Table dining room where Guests can enjoy a unique multi-course menu while interacting with the head chef. This special room seats 16 and features elegant, Ratatouille-inspired décor that includes bold red chairs and drapes, shimmering chandeliers and inviting scenes of Paris on the walls.

The Wine Room

Up to 16 Guests can choose to dine in a luxurious glass-walled room with marble flooring amid more than 900 bottles of wine, including a rare selection of Old World wines balanced with a solid selection of New World wines. Once dinner is booked and Guests are on board, they are invited to meet with a sommelier in Remy's wine room to taste and pre-select their wines for the evening.

Remy Reservations

Reservations are required and can be made online or on board the ship. When dining at Remy, Guests will skip the regularly scheduled Main Dining restaurant.

Concierge Guests: 120 days in advance
Castaway Club Levels:

Platinum Castaways: 120 days in advance
Gold Castaways: 105 days in advance

Reserved Guests are invited to meet with a sommelier in Remy's Wine Room to taste and pre-select their evening wines once onboard.

An additional charge is required to dine at Remy and has yet to be determined.

Located between Remy and Palo, Meridian is an adults-only lounge inspired by the early—and adventurous—days of sea travel, where Guests can enjoy a pre-dinner or post-dinner cocktail amid an indoor ocean view setting or breezy outdoor deck. The décor incorporates navigational tools, maps on the walls, and an illuminated constellation map above the maitre d' station. Meridian's outdoor deck also provides a perfect spot to watch a romantic sunset or to relax with a cigar selected from a fine assortment available at the bar.
