New Camera???

SO I have this trip coming up to WDW over Easter and I am seriously thinking about buying a new camera...question is what is the right one for me??

I currently have a little canon p & s. It's nothing special; it's the A1100 IS model with 4x optical zoom and 12.1 mega pixels. I REALLY want to go big and get the Canon T3; but I don't have a lot of time to learn much about using it before our trip and I don't think I want something that big to carry around in the park. Is it really worth spending that kind of money? I do take tons of pictures; but I really need to talk my hubby into that much money for a camera.

Can anyone suggest something else? The most annoying thing with the camera I have now is that it is soooo slow. My kids are very active and I feel like I miss a lot of pictures because my camera doesn't take continuous pictures well. I don't want to miss any character moments!!

Suggestions PLEASE!!

I love the Nikon D3200
it is your above point and shoot and an intro to Digital SLR. What i love if you get a Digital SLR is that they have a setting for Auto where the camera will do the work for you. so no time having to figure things out.

I took mine to my trip and got amazing pics even when I did not learn all the features.

Here is a Tip:
All Photographers at Disney use Nikon, If you venture out of the Auto Setting they will help you out. Just ask any of the Photopass photographers.

so I recommend the camera Disney uses for those amazing shots: Nikon

PS. Another tip, Costco has the Nikon and they have the 90 day return policy, if for some reason you try it are not pleased, they will gladly take it back upon returning or you can exchange it. Just a thought.... I love buying my electronics there.

We are dedicated Canon users on our household and I was in a similar position as what you are describing a couple of years ago and I went with the Canon Powershot SX 40. It has more functionality than a point and shoot without being as complicated or cumbersome as a full fledged SLR. It has an awesome auto mode if you don't want to think about anything but it also has a variety of other modes that allow you to have more control if you want. It has a sports mode and a rapid fire capability which from your post sounds like you would have lots of use for.

I have been thrilled with the zoom and that was one of the other things that I was really missing on my point and shoot. I also really liked that in addition to the built in flash you have the option to add a larger external flash if you wanted. However, thus far I have found that I don't need the flash very often at all.

Like I said the model I have is a couple of years old so you might also want to check into the newer versions of the same product line as well. This is the one I have:

And if you are interested in seeing pictures I shot with it on our Disney cruise/WDW vacation last month please let me know and I will be happy to send you a link. Hope this helps and happy shopping!

I have used the same series of camera that Kathryn just posted for years and love it. I started with the S2, then S5, SX20, and the one I currently have is the SX40, the one which is posted. The one that is out now is the SX50. If you look at any of my layouts, pretty much any of the pics will have been taken with this set of cameras. I've gotten some really good pictures on dark rides as well with the low light setting.
