Journaling says:
Having planned this trip to WDW about 6 months in advance, it didn’t seem unusual to find out our flight numbers had changed. But it was a little odd that the airline messed up and put us on a flight 12 hours earlier than we had booked. We didn’t really mind because we’d already discovered we were going to miss the fireworks at MK this trip - they were only happening on Saturday night at the exact time we were scheduled to land. So instead of an evening flight, we were on our way to WDW at 6:00 in the morning. We just knew the extra hours at the Happiest Place on Earth were worth losing a few hours of sleep that morning. Little did I know what was really in store for me that night during the fireworks display...
When we checked in at Old Key West there was a letter waiting for us thanking us for for allowing them another chance to improve their service. (The last time we stayed at OKW the bus service stunk.) We were invited to be their “Guests of Honor” on the Grand I for a special view of “Fantasy in the Sky” in front of the Magic Kingdom from "The Best Seat In The World." Wow, a little complaining and Disney goes overboard to make you happy, or so I was led to believe. By the afternoon we were pretty tired and David suggested we skip the fireworks. I, of course, said I’d rather skip dinner. So we headed over to the Contemporary to eat then made our way out to the docks to wait for the boat. I wondered how many others were going to get on with us and was surprised when it was just us. After a trip around the Seven Seas Lagoon we stopped in front of the Magic Kingdom. I was ready for the show with video camera strapped firmly to my wrist. As the first firework shot into the sky something happened that I wasn’t expecting... A ring was slipped on my finger. I was stunned, speechless - but still recording the show and now a proposal too.
Yup, it was all a set up - the “mixed up” flight time, the letter waiting for us when we checked in, the complaints of being too tired. But it was all worth it, because on October 14, 2000 at 9:00 pm my fairy tale began...
