Chit Chat for February Speed Scrap Marathon 2014

I am putting the finishing touches on the schedule for the upcoming 2014 Annual Speed Scrap Marathon. The official dates are February 7th, 8th and 9th. I hope you have marked your calendars and are getting excited!

The format is basically like last year... lots of Speed Scraps, tons of amazing prizes, lots of chatting, a half marathon goodie bag and a full goodie bag if you get them all completed and LOTS and LOTS of FUN!!!

I will be back very soon wtih more information, a complete schedule and some eye candy to get the excitement started. :hooray:

So.... get ready for loads of fun and fellowship. :yeah:

Let's use this thread to chat about the marathon. :)

CynthiaY2 01-19-2014 12:48 PM

Super excited for the marathon. I have lots of pages to catch up on plus love all the goodies. :D

To help me keep track of the rules and kits I have used for the past few years during the marathon I created two different sheets to assist me depending on how I want to follow along. I thought I would share it with all of you once again so please feel free to download if you would like to use them.

luv2scrapmm 01-19-2014 05:57 PM

Excited! The marathons are so much fun and the goody bags are awesome. We have such talented and generous designers.

LOL! I'm not sure how fabulous I am but absolutely I will be making the follow along sheet again. I need it just to keep me organized..HEHE! :D

As soon as Melinda posts it in the thread I will create the downloadable sheet for reference for all those who wish to use it.

Thank you Cynthia and Melinda!:hooray::hooray::scrapbooking::scrapbookin g:

tukogirl 01-21-2014 09:23 AM

Can't wait!

I've been making a little list for myself of what pages I want to do and how many pics I have for each page so if the hostess says it needs to be a certain amount of pics I know which pages fit that requirement.

Anyone else doing some prep work for the big weekend?

tinkerbell1112 01-21-2014 09:24 AM

Cynthia, thank you! I've used your sheets before and it does help!!

yes! I'm importing all my kits that I haven't imported for the past 6 months. I buy and don't always have time to move them into SBC4. I've been working on that and also figuring out which pages I have left to do to finish 2 big trips. I want to use the marathon to complete those books! I think I have like 20 pages left until I'm 100% done with my 2010 & 2012 trips. Then I need to finish up 2008 and 2013 whew! This would help me get moving in the right direction! And when I'm all done with those, it's time for another trip!!

QuiltyMom 01-21-2014 10:03 AM

I am so behind at scrapping my Disney stuff. But that's okay. I'm taking my time getting it done because we can't afford to go to Disneyland anymore, so I need to make them last. But the marathon is when I get my best work done!

I think you are fabulous because I would not have made it last year if it were not for that sheet.
Thank you so much for doing it again this year!

Awwww! Your very welcome. I need to stay focused during those marathons so having my book layout spreadsheet, the SS checklist ready for directions, and the overall list of speedscraps and times is a MUST DO!! Can you tell I'm a little OCD when it comes to planning. LOL! I do like to share as well so those you would like to utlize them can. :)

Stay tuned I'll post the overall list in printable form again this year once Melinda releases all the details.

I have so many pages to catch up on. I can't decide to scrap WDW or Disney Cruise pages.

Annet83 01-22-2014 01:35 AM

Can't wait! Too bad it was my working weekend, but I already switched 2 out of the 3 days and hope to switch the last one too, so I can participate in all the speedscraps!

QuiltyMom 01-22-2014 06:30 AM

I'm starting to prepare by going through and editing photos. That always hangs me up during a SS. If I get that done then I'll be all ready to play!

Sagediva2 01-22-2014 07:22 AM

This will be my first time participating. Now to see if I can get hubby to take the girls out for a little while each day so I can play :)

welcome! they're a blast! my first year I made a goal of trying to hit half of them. it's a bit overwhelming - especially if you are working in "life" around the ss's. I hate that I have a cookie booth that weekend, 2 basketball games, and a swim team practice. LOL. But just do what you can! I would suggest attempting to upload to the gallery before the weekend starts to make sure you know how to do that - and how to post into a forum the image of your layout. It took me a while my first time, and my very first upload was the first speed scrap I did, and I was sweating it! Trying to make sure the size was correct, etc. )

Work on your cruise pages. :) I'll be working mostly on cruise pages and I can use lots of your great inspiration :scrapbooking:

Andrea...your so funny! We cruise again in just 59 days so I have lots of cruise pages I need to get done before we go.

What a great idea!! I have most of my kits organized by theme/park/character...but nothing else really. I did organize my photos right after our trip, so they are mostly ready to go!

I'm trying to talk the family into another trip for next year, so I really want to get as many of these pages done first!

I had talked my husband into the girls going to their grandparents that weekend...but my FIL is in the hospital AGAIN....and we probably won't do that to him, so he can build up his immunity! I'll have to find someone else to take the girls?! Hmmmm.....maybe I can send them each to a friend's house that weekend? Will have to see if that will work!

branan5 01-26-2014 06:44 PM

I am so excited for this Marathon! Just started scrapping last February right after the Marathon last year. I have been organizing my Kits, Freebies, and Trip photos since the beginning of the 2014. I still have a few more things to organize but I feel like I am really figuring out how I need to organize my things. I have learned SO much over the last year here! I can't wait to celebrate my 1 year Scrapanniversary with the Marathon!

I can't wait!! This is where I get the bulk of my scrapping done too!

Great point! Even when I attempt to update my java it does not like Safari so I have to jump into Internet Explorer and it seems to work fine. Just another FYI for those who use safari. If you don't have promblems using safari PLEASE tell me what you did. :)

Great minds think alike! I updated my Java yesterday and tried to login today and had to do a couple of things to make it work. I need to try again on the day before to double check it :ack: silly Java always causes me grief!

Aussiegirl 01-27-2014 06:50 PM

well, it always seems to happen! Something comes up during the marathon that makes me miss parts of it! Why should this year be any different?!

Our Sunday School class at Church is having a dinner get together on Friday night....at 7pm! While it will interfer with maybe a couple challenges, hopefully it doesn't set me back too far...and I am able to catch up!

meagan43 01-27-2014 07:36 PM

So excited! Like Cynthia, I make a list (mine a little different than hers). I keep mine in excel and put in due date, thank you sents, notes, LO created, etc.

I have been organizing and tagging my stuff in SBC for about a week now to get ready. Photos need to be organized next. I have something like 4 trips worth of photos to scrap

tukogirl 01-28-2014 08:00 AM

Just saw the schedule. The first one Saturday morning is at 5am my time :eek::eek: Oh Lord, Give me Strength!

Also, I just un stickied the threads from last year's marathon. So if you want to sticky the master thread and the chit chat thread (or anything else!) go ahead!

Bwahhaahhaa! Now you know what I feel like when I have to get my DD to the ice rink at 4:50 am! That's where I'll be. But then that'd be1:50 your time.

I'm bad, aren't I? :lol2:

QuiltyMom 01-28-2014 10:37 AM

That weekend is a busy one for me. It's my DH's 50th birthday on Friday, so it'll be dinner with the family. Then all of my daughter's skating practices on top of that. I'll be lucky if I can get half of the scraps done this year.

haha! I get up at 4:30 for work every morning. But to do it on a Saturday is just ... wrong....

Annet83 01-29-2014 04:30 AM

I've managed to switch all my shifts at work, so I'm free all weekend :) Only the nightly ones (I live in Holland) will be tricky, but I'll just catch up the next morning.

hichchei 01-30-2014 07:26 PM

I so hope I can do them all!! We just got back from WDW last week and I am ready to scrap my photos lol

Ooh...that is a GREAT idea!! If I have time this week, I should do that!

alclark11 01-30-2014 09:03 PM

I was so excited when I saw the dates! I'm going to a scrapbooking retreat next weekend, so it works out perfectly!! While I have to work Friday, and leave the camp early afternoon on Sunday, I will have all day Saturday to play (though I have lots more than Disney pages to work on). I'm aiming to complete the half marathon at the very least.

sparklehal 01-31-2014 03:41 AM

Nooooooooooo! The 9th I will be driving to Disney World. Dangit! Lol
I really miss being able to do all of these. Hope you all have fun and win lots of cool stuff.

Bummer that you will miss some of the marathon. :( Maybe you can play on Friday and Saturday?

Have a fabulous trip to WDW! How long you stayin? Drop me a PM. I'd love to meet you while you are down. I still have family visiting so it may be tricky and I'll be busy wrapping up the marathon during the week, but maybe the following weekend? Let me know. :)

SFChickyinFL 01-31-2014 08:51 AM

Ok, total newbie question on the marathon - is this for digital scrapbooking or can it include traditional?

You can absolutely do traditional pages! The important thing is just getting some of your Disney pages done. When you've followed the directions and completed your page just take a photo or scan and upload to the gallery.

For the most part, you will be able to follow the instructions exactly. But there may be a few cases where you'll need to adapt the instructions a little to complete the challenge. For example - one of your instructions may be to use a template that has 4 pics. In that case you could base your page off a sketch for a 4 pic page. Or you may be instructed to put 2 scatters on your page. Then you might want to take 3 tiny flowers and cluster them together to approximate a scatter and do that twice.
