Speed scrap marathon 2017 update - Date announced! July 28-30!

UPDATE: The speed scrap marathon will be July 28-30! :toothorn:

----
Hi everyone. I just wanted to give an update on our annual speed scrap marathon. We frequently find a number of challenges to holding the marathon in the first 4-5 months of the year (trying to work around holidays and spring breaks, which vary widely, and steering clear of iNSD). So this year we have decided to return to the roots of our original 'Minnie Marathon' and hold this event in the summer. Most likely mid/late July or August. Though we know the summer won't be without conflicts, we are hoping it will work better overall than the first part of the year. We will let you know in a few months when we have solidified a date. Thanks for your understanding.

Yup! We are spending a few days in Disneyland (first time in like 5 years!) in early July, so I am hoping the original post is correct and it ends up being in late July or August!! It was great motivation last year, so I hope I am around this year too!

janette 06-01-2017 01:14 PM

:scrapbooking: :yeah:

I always get so much done; hopefully it will be July as I'll be gone most of the first part of August.

MamaLB 06-13-2017 03:29 PM

I can't wait to hear updates! I really want to participate this year! Trying to get a lot done to prepare now! :scrapbooking:

roxana 06-13-2017 07:07 PM

Hope I can make it all, there are some books needing to be finished and a SS marathon is just perfect!!!

LoveitScrapit 06-26-2017 03:50 PM

Sounds fun and interesting. We haven't been to any of the Disney parks yet. Hoping we can plan a family vacation for one soon!!

Carolc 06-26-2017 04:00 PM

The speed scrap marathon will be July 28-30. Hope you can make some or all of it!

LoveitScrapit 06-26-2017 04:10 PM

Hoping I'll be around for some of it, just to check it out

Kendra 06-26-2017 06:21 PM

Oh, no, that's my daughter's birthday weekend and we'll be at WDW! Maybe I can take my laptop and get some of the challenges done...

tukogirl 06-27-2017 12:21 PM

I'll be there (If I have found my laptop after my move the previous weekend!)

Wahoomrm 06-28-2017 10:10 AM

Great - I need so set aside some time and scrap again!

bellbird 07-01-2017 11:32 PM

Looking fwd to July 28-30!

CoralTurtle 07-03-2017 07:25 AM

Oh yay! I am so hoping I have received my new computer before the 28th! My old one does not cooperate with scrapping any longer! Can't wait!

Marie 07-06-2017 10:21 AM

Looking forward to it! I haven't been able to scrap in a while.

Aussiegirl 07-06-2017 07:51 PM

It's on the calendar, and I've already warned the family! I have only a few pages in my album to finish....but I have cousins who went to Disneyland Paris. I downloaded the photos they posted and hope to make them an album as a thank you for the DL Paris ornament and magnet they brought back for me!

Excited to scrap more Disney pages!!!!! :yeah:

meagan43 07-07-2017 06:55 AM

Darn, I will be "off-the-grid" in Yosemite where the signal doesn't really work.
:(

This will be the first marathon that I have missed since I started doing them.

cmtscrap 07-07-2017 06:33 PM

Yea!!! I should actually be around for this one.

Marif 07-10-2017 05:45 AM

ooooh, I'm glad I saw that... I'll write it down and try to be there!

Marathon Availability Question

I was planning to take the 28th off so I can fully participate but my manager booked an 8am - noon EST meeting. QQ: Would I still be able to submit layouts in time for full participation?

Have to say I was SUPER excited to complete all the challenges last round and I've been to Disney 3x since then and have lots to do!

What has happened in the past is that most hostesses will give a window for completion for the prize for that particular speed scrap (typically at least four hours, but occasionally more). There's been an overall deadline the Monday after for completion for the main goodie bags for the half and full marathon. For the goodie bags, it hasn't mattered whether or not you finish each SS by its own deadline. This may change, but it's what we've done the past couple years so you should be alright. If nothing else, there are always games in the week after too that are really fun to play.

I've worked most days over the last couple marathons and have been able to finish every time. Admittedly, those are long caffeinated nights with no family commitments, but it's certainly possible to do if you really want to!

Getting excited for next weekend! I think it's time to start the organization game....getting photos organized more, kits organized, ideas in mind...so that when it comes time to get these pages done, we are ready!!!! So excited for this year's marathon! (oh, I think I need to remind my husband AGAIN! The farther ahead he knows, the more he's not surprised when I ask him to do something with the girls for the day!!!) :yeah:

CoralTurtle 07-19-2017 08:21 PM

I agree! I'm getting organized this week too! I got my new computer today! I'm so glad I can actually participate the right way this time!! :yeah:

Looking forward to it! Sadly, I have a commitment on Saturday afternoon, so hopefully there is a little wiggle room with the deadlines! Ironically, we are going to the theater to see Beauty and The Beast...

DianeInOz 07-20-2017 08:12 AM

We just got back last week from Disneyland and I still haven't finished our Disney World trip from September so I will have lots to scrap! But I am in that stage where I don't know what the heck to do to organize it all!! Agh! I usually go chronologically by day (and then smaller groups, like Fantasyland or Star Wars stuff), but we often do the same park on multiple days, so every single trip I come back wondering how I am going to organize it all!!!

How do you tend to organize your books?!
Guess I have about a week to figure that out!!

CoralTurtle 07-21-2017 01:50 PM

I work chronologically Diane. Another member put out an amazing excel file for planning your scrapbooks. It's helped me a lot. I added an extra column for ideas on which kits I might want to use, so during a speed scrap, I wouldn't panic or waste time. I tend to want to scroll through EVERYTHING I own. I'll try to find the post with that file.

In preparation, make sure you are all refreshed up on SLACK our chat room! Remember you need to have a login to participate and can send me a pm to get one if needed!

(also, can click the little blue bubble in the very upper right hand corner)

I'll be in and out of Slack today just checking things out if you want to stop in and say hello. Remember you CAN use this on your phone! (I'll be at a swim meet today and playing around on it!!)

LoveitScrapit 07-22-2017 05:36 PM

I need a login ..how do I get one? thanks

Speed Scrap Marathon Hours

Silly question... what time does it start Friday and when do the challenges tend to stop each day? I was on the West Coast last week+ for work, in the East this week and back West next Monday - want to try to figure out what Timezone I should try to be on

We're still tweaking the schedule, but the first one Friday will start somewhere around 11am ET and the stop time each day ranges from 9-10pm ET.

briarrose 07-26-2017 05:24 PM

I was so looking forward to the Speed Scrap weekend, but I just learned my cousin's husband died and the service in Friday with graveside service on Saturday. I live 200 miles away so if I go it would take me out for 2 days.

bellbird 07-26-2017 05:52 PM

:hooray: so excited for this!! - i know our timezones won't line up exactly (with me being in Australia) but i'm looking forward to trying to get another half marathon worth of pages done at least!
